Care, bond and vitamins

Feeding, cleaning and bond decide when a bird can fly and how well it performs. This page shows the daily maths and what every vitamin is really worth.

Feeding

  • Feeding costs 1 grain per bird. "Feed the flock" feeds every hungry bird in the loft you are in. Hunger resets at each day change, so you feed once a day.
  • Hand-feeding a bird (from its details) also costs 1 grain, once per bird per day, and gives +4 bond on top.
  • Grain costs 20G for 10 (2.0G a grain) or 90G for 50 (1.8G a grain). You start with 500G and 20 grain.
  • A bird that is not fed today loses 12 ability points in a race, 12 points in a flying event, 15 Condition points in a show, and its lure pull is x0.6 instead of x1.
  • The auto feeder (2,500G per loft) feeds the loft's hungry birds from your grain stock at the day change, at the same price as hand feeding, with birds of a pair first. It gives no bond bonus. If the grain runs out the remaining birds stay hungry.

Bond and the batcher

Every day change, each bird at home gains or loses bond points:

change = ( +6 if fed, -8 if not ) + INT/20 + (loft cleanliness - 50)/25 + (TMP - 50)/25 (rounded; bond stays between 0 and 100)
Bond change in one day
SituationChange a day

Fed, INT 40, TMP 40, loft 20% clean+6
Not fed, INT 70, TMP 55, loft 80% clean-3
Not fed, INT 40, TMP 40, loft 20% clean-8
  • A new chick or bird starts with bond 0 and clipped (shop birds are bought clipped). At bond 100 its wings are unclipped for good and it is a batcher: it can be tossed, sent outside, and enter races and the Flying Meet. A batcher stays a batcher even if its bond later falls.
  • A fed bird in a clean loft gets from bond 0 to 100 in about 9 to 17 days (the first example is 10 days, the second 17).
  • Extra bond: hand-feeding +4, grooming +1 (a fed bird, costs 2 grain).
  • Where bond counts: race ability (bond - 100) x 0.1, tournament points (bond - 100) x 0.1, homing (30%), 30% of the Altitude Cup landing mark, 20% of show Posture, a +10 Condition bonus at 100 in shows, and a x1.1 pull in the lure at 100 (x0.9 under 30).

Cleanliness

  • Each day a loft loses 10 + 4 x (birds at home) points of cleanliness. A loft with 6 birds loses 34 points a day, one with 12 birds loses 58.
  • Sweeping is free and sets it back to 100.
  • It feeds the bond formula above (from -2 at 0% to +2 at 100%).
  • Under 40%: the lure pull of every bird x0.85, flying events -6 points (under 15%: -12), and a care-breed bird cannot enter the Fancy Show. Show Condition adds 0.15 x cleanliness.

Vitamins

Buy doses in the Shop or at the loft shelf, then use "Give vitamin" on one bird. A dose belongs to a rarity: it only works for birds of the same main breed rarity, and its price rises with it.

  • One dose of each kind at a time per bird, and not two of the same kind on one day.
  • If a dose is not used within its days it is wasted.
  • A bird must be at home to get a dose; Breeder mix needs the bird to be in a pair.

How much is each worth?

Energy mix is the strongest by far. Race time is (700 + 4.2 x ability + luck) x wind, so multiplying speed by 1.05 is the same as adding about 0.05 x (167 + ability) ability points, which is about 15 ability points for a typical racer. That is more than a missing feed (12).

For an uncommon bird, a dose costs 70G. With a 70G first prize in the Club Sprint it pays for itself on a win, but the bigger value is moving a bird up into a harder race.

Worked examples

Example 1: what a flock costs per day

A loft with 12 birds costs 12 grain a day, 21.6G to 24G at shop prices. The auto feeder does not make this cheaper. What it saves is the daily tap, and it makes sure no bird misses a meal and loses bond.

Example 2: a skipped day

A bird at bond 95 (INT 70, TMP 55, loft 80% clean) misses a feeding: it falls by 3 points to 92. Racing it then costs 12 ability points (not fed) and 0.8 points (bond), about 13 in total; the win chance of the starter Janssen above would fall from 28% to about 3%.

Example 3: Recovery mix for a sprinter

After a Club Sprint a bird rests 1 day, so it can race every second day. With Recovery mix the rest is 0 days and the same bird can race again the very next day. After the 600 km Classic the rest goes from 3 days to 1.
